There are various myths about hair loss in women. Some of them are true and some are not. One of the popular myths that hold no concrete proof is that a woman suffering from hair loss does have the proper hormonal make-up of a woman. Myths that hold a certain degree of truth is that hair loss can be triggered by washing, styling, brushing, or combing their hair too often and too much.

While women are prone to any form of hair loss, telogen effluvium is the term used for the most common hair loss condition that women suffer from. Telogen effluvium fortunately draws out for only a definite time, generally within approximately six months. In a few known cases, it is chronic. Usually, the condition is the body’s response to intense or traumatic physical, mental, or emotional stress. It can also be a result of medication.

Telogen effluvium begins with a massive hair thinning while the shedding of hair is non-specific but spread all throughout the scalp. It is observed that stress alters vitamin and mineral absorption which would then affect certain metabolic processes such as hair growth. Aside from this theory, it is as well assumed that prolactin production increases during severe stress. High levels of prolactin increases testosterone production which will lead to increased dihydrotestosterone (DHT) build-up, a major hair loss–causing agent. The last assumption drawn from the connection between stress and hair growth is that stress hormones such as cortisol and corticotrophin-releasing hormones (CRH) can alter the natural course of hair growth detrimentally.

Fast and Easy Remedy for Telogen Effluvium

Since the condition is only temporary, you have the discretion to seek treatment or not. You can just wait for your hair to grow back again. But you must know that you have the option to treat it through various hair loss therapies such as medications or surgical methods.

While you are on medication, you can try concealing the baldness with hair pieces. You can also resort to hair growth shampoos and volumising conditioners.

On top of that, you will of course need to reduce your stress levels. It is true that women are prone to higher stress levels than men are because as studies would have it, women tend to think of other people’s welfare too, other than themselves. You need to unwind and let go of what’s causing your stresses to save your tresses. Aside from that, you need to improve your diet. Nutritional values of what you consume are essential for your hair, too.
